History of the Maasai people in Kenya

The Maasai originated in the lower Nile Valley and migrated south in the 15th century, settling in southern Kenya and northern Tanzania around 1750 CE.

Their territory expanded in the 19th century to cover much of the Great Rift Valley. Known for their colorful dress and warrior skills, the Maasai traditionally relied on cattle herding for sustenance.

However, urbanization and the establishment of game reserves have reduced their grazing lands, leading to a more sedentary lifestyle that includes farming and purchasing food.
